Analyse text/ audio structure for structural and language features(S)(L)(R)(W);
How we do this will depend on our macroskill. If we are focusing on reading, we will use text. If we are doing a listening exercise, we will use an audio recording.
Discuss the cultural aspects of the Interaction/speaking task(S); At this time we can discuss the `culture` of our chosen text/ audio/ video/ role play etc. This is a good time for students to start to use the vocabulary and understand the relationship between the vocabulary being learnt and our lesson materials. For a reading exercise, we will:
Introduce and read the text(R);
If we are focusing on some specific skills, we will use more detailed texts, for example:
Reading for main idea, gist, details etc.(R);
Again, a speaking exercise, for example:
Observe speaking strategies, e.g. turn taking(S);
After we have run through the exercise, check if students understood it. We can add a controlled (accuracy) part to this middle area of our session:
Controlled speaking practice;
Here are some more ideas we can add to understand the subject we are talking about. We can add as many as we like. We can also have some of these in other parts of the lesson.
