If you get involved in this project, you will truly understand writing in genre.
Genre Analysis Template Exercise:
1. What kind of text do we have?
2. What are the structural features of that text type?
3. What are the language features of that text type?
These are the kinds of questions we must ask about texts we use in our lessons.
Google Drive Exercise:
Now to help people better understand genre, we shall make a folder with practice examples of genre analysis.
Genre Analysis folder: bit.ly/2QupqsW
Our sample templates are all in the folder:
Explanation Genre Analysis Template
Narrative Genre Analysis Template
Recount Genre Analysis Template
Argument Genre Analysis Template
Procedure Genre Analysis Template
Information Report Genre Analysis Template
Response Genre Analysis Template
Persuasion Genre Analysis Template
Check out: tesol.boards.net/post/96
Use the NSW Board of Education module training manual for genre explanations.
1. Start to prepare the sample templates by placing the structural features and language features down each side of the template (I have started the narrative genre template for you).
2. Once all the structural and language features are written out in each template, add your text. Analyse it, and place in each box one sentence.
3. Add structural and language features associated with that sentence in the boxes on the left (structural) and right (language).
**Note: You do not have to do this for each sentence, you can do for each rheme. The concept of rheme is the part of a sentence that provides new information regarding the current theme. Check out: bit.ly/2mONh8j
